Bridgeport Series 1 vari Disc Surface - how to recondtion from rust?

The disc plates on a 2J drive have rust, see attached. Is this critical or should a simple brushing recondition it to working order?

I would probably put it in my lathe and hit it with some ScotBrite or fine paper.

The belt will take care of it when you use it... Mine did.. It polished it..
