I bought an Index 55 mill with a Brown & Sharpe 9 taper.
I’ve went to order collets and they’re always out of stock.
I’m considering an ER 32 or ER40 collet Chuck and collets instead.
I can find a few B&S 9 single collets.
Is there a benefit to either?

Many old machines use the large B&S collets, there is no reason not to use them- they are beefy, have tremendous grip, and the import ones
are well made- I got a few from Little Machine Shop
Usually for milling machine tooling you would only need a few sizes: I have 3/8", 1/2", 5/8" and 3/4" and use the first two the most

Wells index will regrind it to R8 but it’s very expensive plus shipping both ways.

I have an older horizontal mill that uses B$S #9 collets. They've always done a good job and are available from many online vendors. I just checked Little Machine Shop and they have individual items and full sets in stock (11 pieces) in stock

Thanks for the link.
My old Mill Master uses B&S 9 collets.
I had 1/2 and 3/4 so just ordered 3 collets. 1/4, 3/8 and 5/8".
