The BT30 spindle nose is basically the same as a R-8 except for the depth of the holder. BUT, you have greater holding-driving capacity than an R-8 ever thought about having! It's much more rigid than R-8 is. The only real draw back is tooling. You should be able to get drill chuck arbors or BT30 with ER-32 or 40 collet capacity that would give you any ability to drill or mill just about anything! Running a face mill should be a more solid mount than you would ever get from a R-8.
I guess the main question is, will it handle 5HP? For most applications, yes it will. But for most applications, I doubt you will ever use more than 1 HP!
