Can anyone tell me what this very old part is?

It is steel,not wrought iron,at least it isn't REAL old (like over 125+ years old). If it was wrought iron,it would have a wood grain like appearance that would be quite evident from the corrosion. Probably a part off an old piece of farm equipment. No way of knowing,really.
