Hi,

I have a small lathe (9x20) and I have chatter problem when I try to cut oring groove inside a piece. I have try to slow down the speed, level up and down the tool, lock the carrier ect. The part is 5/8 hole in stainless steel.

Agree with Mike, your tool needs to be much sharper, with more relief. I suspect you also still have a rigidity issue somewhere. Stainless can be tough though, especially on small, light machines.
Once it begins to work-harden the cutting can become really difficult.

It appears that your groove is actually a counter-bore, open to the end of the part. If so, try feeding the tool longitudinally (boring) instead of plunging with the cross-feed, taking small bites.
