Our new house came with a chest freezer. It has been unplugged for the last three years. I plugged it in yesterday and it turned on. I checked it this morning and it is not cooling. It was working before. Anyone know anything about these? I'm hoping I can get this one running vs having to buy a new one and deal with disposing. Not finding much online.

Chuck the chest freezer. buy an upright. I've had 2 chest freezers. A real pain to find something. For some unknow reason everything you put in it eventually ends up on the bottom. must be gremlins

Is the compressor running? If it is and not cooling, it is probably toast;'loss of refrigerant due to leak. If not, check the thermostat setting. The PO may have turned it off. Some older freezers used an expansion valve to control the evaporator temperature. Newer ones just used a length of capillary tubing. A bad expansion valve could shut off the flow of refrigerant. Capillary tubing can develop a plug, shutting off refrigerant flow.
