Just had a clausing 2225 drill press given to me and wondering if the motor is suitable for a vfd so I don’t have to use 3 phase. I don’t know how to tell if it’s a synchronous or asynchronous motor any help would be appreciated attached is the motor plate

Do it. Just make sure the motor is wired for LOW voltage (220). Get a minimum .75kw VFD. Set it to 220 volts out and the max amps to 2.6 (2.1 x SF of 1.25). Do other programming per your usage.

so long as you operate in the 30 to 90 Hz envelope, you'll be just fine
if you operate at 60Hz, the motor will perform just as if it were plugged into a 3 phase line connection

Use of a synchronous motor as a tool is rare to the point of non-existantce. It will be a regular induction motor. I have no experience with a VFD, you will depend on above statements.
