If you were following my other posts about the other Clausing, my 13x36 Colchester I now have a new one.
This is serial number 500533. Originally purchased through H. G Grable Co. Inc. Minioloa long Island new York. I wonder how it ended up in California.
Overall condition is nice. Tom White and his nephew and my son picked this up after unloading Tom's lathe.
This is a 12x24 size lathe.
So far so good. Only one oil leak in the speed co tool assembly. I have a rebuild kit ordered. And I ordered a new cross feed and nut from a person in Texas who is making them for half the price of Clausing parts department.
This is the.perfect size for my small shop in my garage.
Some questions though. What are the main advantages of a brake and clutch on this??
The reason I'm asking is that I found all the parts to add yo mine. My cabinet is drilled for the clutch / Brake but never installed.

I installed rollers that have a foot that can adjust to level the machine. But I'm not happy with them. I need to figure out exactly where I want it, then remove these rollers. Bad design as far as I'm concerned. My Logan was about the same weight and was perfect on its heavy duty casters. Easy to level.
This came with a KDK 0 series tool post and 3 holders. Now I need a cut off holder. The 3 jaw chuck is a Shars I think. I would liketo find a Buck chuck that doesn't brake the bank..

Mine was a 5914 I think without the clutch/brake , one of our members here has it now . One advantage is the machine is always running so no pushing buttons on and off constantly . Either way , nice machines . I regret selling mine . :(

Progress. Removed the cross feed screw. Loosened up the apron to drop and found out I need to pull the feed screw to enable removing the carriage. There are 2 pins located in the carriage between the apron bolts. These won't let me rotate the carriage up on the far end to pull towards the other side to lift up.

I studied the parts diagram a bit more. The carriage had 2 gibs tucked behind the apron. That was the holdup. Now the carriage is off.
Checked out the Apron gears and all are ok.
Then checked the Cross feed bearing assembly. Bearing is kaput. It's a fafnir timken 202 kdd. And there is a bronze bushing at the other end of this housing and it's kaput also. Ordered one. Bushing is not shown in the diagram. I called Clausing tech support and they looked it up. In stock.
Plus I have the new cross slide screw assembly on the way. I also ordered the thrust bearing and the 2 plates as mine were missing. And ordered the seal at the end of the screw as mine is gone. Someone how was into it before had parts left over.
This should work very smoothly when completed.
Mike

The compound nut Is shot, but I already have a new on. The compound screw is like new, go figure. I also have a bushing for that bearing housing.

I just finished the compound rebuild. Nice and tight. No slop at all. Now waiting for a bearing to show up for the carriage cross feed. This will turn out nice. In the pictures, the 2 screw nuts setting on the vise. The old one was rounded a bit on top to allow it to fit in the tight space, the new one was not, it is now and works perfectly. Thankfully the screw was ok just a bad nut.

You’re moving along pretty quickly ! As far as the clutch lever . On my 5914 it has the lever . Its very handy to be able to stop the chuck pretty quickly and change feeds and directions , If you have or can get all the parts to convert it at a decent price you’ll be happy doing it

I just ordered part of the clutch linkage and the brake clutch handle assembly with more linkage. I'm getting their slowly but surely.
