Interestingly, and quite by acccident, I found out that over the counter OSpho - aka phosphoric acid- dissolves quite a variety of oils, grime, and crud of all sorts, in addition to being a rust remover. It usually does not affect paint, or fiberglass gel coat, but does loosen and remove crud. Only need to leave it on the surface for 10-15 minutes then wipe clean with a shop rag. Neutralize with water or thinner. I used to clean the bilges and engine compartment in my sailboat with the stuff once or twice a year. Made them spotless.
It might work on vegatable based machine oil...plus any stray rust goes away as well!
