Tough to know how much rust you have but leaving those rusty then expecting them to perform a critical task opens you up to potentially dealing with a broken tap. Break a tap once in something that is critical and you will never want to deal with that again. If you have a critical hole that needs to be tapped, I wouldn’t use a rusty tap unless you have a set of left hand drills and extractors. Knowing someone with a milling machine could also be helpful.
