Am using a 3/4x60 degree double angle cutter HSS for doing serrations on a slide. They are not coming out as smooth and clean as i would like.Speed is about 300rpm and feeding fairly slow manually with about .003 cut.Does this sound to fast or slow and should I use coolant or would air do to keep clean
of chips.I am new at this and it is a junk slide i am practicing on with a Index 645 mill.
Thanks for any ideas

I think you need to give a little more info for the guys . Or maybe I'm a little more dense than most. Is this on a horizontal and is the 3/4" the thickness with the 60* included? If so what's the diameter of the cutter. Maybe a picture or 2 would help.

It is 3/4 dia.cutter vertical mill like a bridgeport.I will try and post pics tomorrow.

I think you need more speed. If surface feet per minute was 100 take (3.82 x 100)/.75 =509 rpm Not knowing the exact metal you are cutting I would say the SFM is 80-120 so you could go up to 600 rpm on a softer steel.

Coolant or cutting oil is always good.
