TPMT might be better, has a bit more side clearance which will come in handy if you're making a cutter on the smaller side. I have to grind a little more clearance on the TCGT inserts I use in mine. Downside is they're a lot less common than TCMT/ TCGT.
My 3/4"Ø SHARS uses TDEW 2-1.5-1, even more clearance and tighter tolerances (has two inserts).
The one's that Randy Richards makes use TPGB (2-2-1 for 1"Ø, 3-2-1 for 1-1/4"Ø), also flat top, with bigger CS and tight tolerance on all except thickness. Not cheap, but from all reports excellent quality. He even shows you how to make your own.
