Down feed backlash trouble

The feedscrew and nut are most likely worn.
It is possible to remove one of the downfeed gib screws and replace it with a thumb screw. The thumb screw would act as a locking device by exerting pressure on the downfeed dovetail, mitigating the backlash issue
Hi Ulma Doctor,
Yeah, my device has one that thumb screw to lock the gib. My doubt was about to feed dow the tool and heve to run an aditional step to the cut, i mean the tool would jump 1,5mm plus the deep of the cut, such as 0,5mm, to perform the cut properly. How can i face with that?

Generally, the gibs on the downfeed on shapers are kept pretty tight, so that the slide will not creep when cutting, mostly, backlash is irrelevant.
Hi friend,
This information was very relevant to me. Are you saying i can tight the gib, set the deep of the cut, place the tool and piece in contact, start to cut and feeding down with no trouble?
I was wondering if the tool post was not to jump at the moment of contact with the workpiece, but tight the gub will avoid that, right?
Thanks
