drill press column extension.

what is a lolly column?
we prob call it something different over here

A Lally column is a round thin-walled structural steel column oriented vertically to provide support to beams or timbers stretching over long spans. The steel shell of a Lally column is filled with concrete, which carries a share of the compression load, and helps prevent local buckling of the shell.

There are not sold down here in Florida, I had to look them up.

Ck some steel dealers for 3" mechanical tubing . I think it comes up as DOM tubing. Like roll cages and race car frames are made of.

Most houses with basements have at least 2 of these supporting the main beam. Some newer house do not as they use some newer engineered structural beams that are supposed to hold the weight without bending under loads.

hmmmmm....I've only every heard them called either a "jack-post" or "post-jack".
Must be a regional thing.
I guess I learned something today.
