Dro Probes

While it might make sense to use an electronic device for positioning with a DRO on a manual machine, I can't see any reasonable way to turn a manual machine into a CMM. It would be really tedious to try to create a point cloud on a manual machine.

Part of a project that I'm currently working on will turn a CNC machine into a CMM on demand. The plan is to set the constraints, then let it run all night and have a point cloud produced by morning. I can't imagine doing this by hand.

I think that depends on the part being measured. One with a lot of symmetry might only require half a dozen or so measurements even for full characterization. The indicator bezel I just finished could be fully described by 10 (annotated) measurements.
