Are drum switches used to turn the power on and off as well as changing direction or does one need a power switch to turn the power on and the drum switch only changes the direction ?
Can one get drums for 120v 1ph, 240v 1ph and 240v 3ph or they all the same if rated high enough
say like this on in this picture ?

Normally the drum switch is used to turn on power as well as control direction.

Most heavy drum switches are rated for at least 240 VAC, many are rated at 600V. Normally a 3 phase switch will have that stated on it or will show a 3 phase rating.

What you really have to note is the rated HP to be sure that the switch is rated for the motor HP at the rated voltage.

Any more info? Voltage? Phase?

Just a FYI, the switch in the picture is rated for 1 hp , 550 v A/C (MAX)
the number of poles isn't stated,
which makes me take a guess that it's a single phase switch.

if you can open it up and post another picture with it open
i'm sure we can tell you more information
