I was watching CEE’s Friday video today and Kurtis was using his line boring setup again. He uses ECGT inserts with his line borer and I wondered what was special about those and I couldn’t find much info on them other than they are similar to CCGT inserts, but have a 75 degree point instead of 80 degrees. I’m not planning on buying any, just curious about them, is the 75 degree point better for line boring than the 80 degree of CCGT inserts? Are these useful in other areas?

I was also curios about the ECGT. That search led me to CCGT and made my knowledge of inserts grow a lot. Very cool.

Yeah, I’m curious why the slight difference in the insert angle. I imagine there must have been a reason a CCGT isn’t used, or maybe the ECGT was invented first but fell out of favor to the CCMT, but the company that made this device was already using the other inserts and didn’t want to change? Maybe I’ll ask the question on Kurtis’ video and see if he responds.
