Did you scrape the wire before reattaching it? Magnet wire has a thin enamel coating that looks nearly invisible
I would take another look

I did not scrape the wire. It was shielded and the wire looked like bare copper. I can check that tomorrow to be sure.

Thanks for the help. I replaced the transformer and found I some bad contacts on a relay, so I replaced that too. All is well now.
