I bought some Shars endmill holders recently and no one will be surprised I was not impressed with them. They are useable but I'd like better. Both the 3/8 and 1/2 have around 0.0015 or tir on an endmill or dowel pin.

I just got a reasonable deal on a 1/2" Lyndex Nikken endmill holder that states an AT3 or better taper with 0.0002" tir. ($51.44 shipped)

How are the modern Lyndex EM holders? How about Sowa brand (Taiwan)?

Tne Ridiculous Machine Tools brand promises extreme accuracy from China but I am getting allergic to wasting money on mediocre.

My goal is to pre-stage several endmills I use a lot. Kind of like the cnc guys do.

Not at all surprised about your disappointment with the Shars holders. I have not bought R8 end mill holders, but I have been really impressed with the TIR on the Sowa facemill arbors I have purchased through Carbide Depot. You might also consider Bison brand, or TMX brand.

Hemley tool is a distributor for Bison. I bought a lot of tooling through their sister company Hemley Hardware. I'll probably have to call them. The only other Bison endmill holder I found online was $98 each. Quality is expensive.

I might give the Sowa 3/8" a try first at $46 shipped from Suncoast tools.

Do you have any history with Lyndex?

You might give this guy a call. He has helped me out a number of times:

The Lyndex Nikken 1/2" endmill holder is freakin amazing. 0.0003" run out at the shank and 0.0001" at the flutes on a stubby carbide endmill. The next endmill I put in this holder will vary so the run-out will vary, but the first endmill made it look awesome. Lol.

I can't buy another one for the same price. It's still $84 now.
