End Mill Recommendation for new mill owner.

I would recommend one of those cheap box sets that has 20 end mills of various sizes in both 2 and 4 flute. You will break some of them figuring out feeds and speeds and how deep a cut you can take. Don't mess with carbide for a while, until you get comfortable with the HSS mills. Breaking them tends to get expensive really fast.

Years ago when I got my BP I bought a set of end mills from HF. I had never used them as I had gotten excellent reground end mills from a machinist friend who ran a grind shop. Having recently sold the BP and purchasing a mini-mill I just now started using the HF mills. Mostly I machine aluminum, brass and 12L14. They are working great. As they dull I will replace with quality end mills. For just beginning the HF sets are cheap and work well.
