This was in a large box of cutters and other tooling that came with a lathe that I bought. The tool appears to never have been used.
I have to say that I have not seen one before. The side of the shank says "Aloris AT5S."
When I dig through the Aloris website, it appears that they still sell this tool - they call it a "Mini Swivel Cartridge Tool Holder."

The one I have has a HSS cutter in it. The cutter appears to be ground to 60 deg - based on comparison with a threading gauge.
The HSS cutter is cantilevered out about as far as it is thick. All of this cant load is born by the clamping machine screw - so I am guessing this is for lighter cuts.
If you have used one of these - how have you used it and what are the benefits?
Thanks for your help,
Terry S.
