Extracting R8 Stuff

I polished about six tenths off the shank of the face mill arbor and it drops out fine now. The few R8 collets I have tried so far have different fits so I may have to polish some of them as well.

Im sure im mistaken here and just dont see the forest for the trees so please someone help me see my error but isnt 0.60" A lot to have been removed especially thru polishing?
