Fly cutter offset?

I need to whip up a fly cutter for a project. A quick look at DIY designs I notice the slot for the tool holder either centered, or off centered...

I'm assuming the off-center nature is to put the cutting edge of the tool on the centerline of the tool, correct?

Yes.

Make sure you offset the correct direction. Or you'll have to run your tool in reverse.

Oh, you did an Austrailian grind. Down there, the machines run counterclockwise because of the inverse Coriolis thing.

An easy solution is to wear synthetic fleece - then the chips stick... Ask me how I know...

Note my lexan shield nicely projecting chips right near the garbage receptacle.
