What is the best material to make a gib for my little miller,is cast iron the best choice? I have the Lathe master LMT25 and the gibs I believe are cast.

My gibs on my mill are tearable they are not flat and if they were ground a belt sander it would be better than these. So I am planning on replacing all of the gibs and scrape them and the dove tails flat.
