Goofy edge-finder, or is it me?

I use PEC Tools edge finders, made in USA. I have the whole set. Fisher also makes good quality edge finders, also made in the USA. Same people that make the Pee Dee thread wires.
 
I bought a cheapo double ender on ebay shortly after I got my mill and it's worked fine ever since. Never had a problem with it in a collet either.
