Based on the original sales slip the manufacturer sent me (sold to Bethlehem Steel in Seattle!), I found my shaper shipped with two of the three possible options! A power tool feed, and the tool lifter. The former worked fine, but the later needed a new hose put together, and eventually cleaning some shmoo out of the valve.

The tool lifter basically automatically works the clapper so you don't drag your tool on the backstroke! As you can see in the video I got it working!

I also ground a bit specifically for it which is working fantastically as well, but it is a bit too pointy, so I have ridges. I'm going to try grinding a finishing bit as well.

The video is about a 80 thou doc and a 35 thou step over.

Welp, that was short lived :)

Apparently the increased spring pressure was sufficient to break out an insufficient braize job from the past. Mixed with too short bolts (the flat head is a set screw that increases the spring preload) and the increased pressure, it popped out while running today.

Looks like I have a new project next: a new clapper. It's actually pretty crusty in a few places, so I'm not upset about that part.

Its a big chunk of what I presume was cast-iron, but I'll probably just go with 1018, everything else is prohibitively expensive. I could do a little better with A36 price wise, but I hate machining A36.
