Grinding parting tool from square HSS

Since HSS is TEMPERED at 1000º,a good red heat,you don't have to worry much about overheating it. Just don't get it real hot and quench it. That can cause cracks,since the air hardening HSS can't take the shock of water quenching too well. You may get away with it for ordinary tools,like threading,RH,or LH tools,but for a thin cut off,be more careful. I just dip and remove quickly a few times,to slow down the cooling off.
