I recently got a DedTru (Harig612) surface grinder. The grinder and cabinet were separated when I got it. I noticed there were pads in the corners between the grinder base and the cabinet. I have seen a couple pictures of similar grinders with similar pads. The problem is I only have 3 out of 4 of the pads. Anyone have any experience with these so as to know what they are made of?
Thanks in Advance
Gary H.

If my memory is intact I believe there is only 3 pads. The three are screwed down tight upon assembly (to determine a plane) The fourth corner is to snug down from the underside of the cabinet.

So I just got an Harig 612 also, like yours it was seperated and only had 3 pads. I figured the 4th was lost, but if easymike is right that would explain it also. Mine doesnt have any means to screw the pads or machine down however, just gravity

Mine definitely has marks from 4 pads in the dirt on top of the cabinet and the one picture I could find online shows 4 with the same waffle pattern as mine. You can just make out all 4 in the attached photo I found online. I can't find any reference to them in the parts manual. I guess I'll have to keep digging.

My 612 base had all 4 of the waffle pads.
Before and after I cleaned it all up...

It cleaned up nice! Mine sat, unused, in an unheated custom auto sheet metal shop for about 15 years. "Fortunately" it had a gallon of Harig way oil spilled over it which "preserved" it. I am taking it off in layers and unfortunately the paint eventually comes with it in places. On the up side it has a 3hp Pope spindle in good shape, a DedTru centerless grinding attachment, a DedTru magnetic sine vise and the coolant system with it. The down side is the reason it sat unused. The lube oil pump had failed and was in pieces. The pumps for these things are EXPENSIVE! I only paid $500.00 for the grinder, but the pump was $350.00 (from Bijur, not Harig). Now I just have to figure out what to use to replace the missing pad and I can reassemble it.

Ya the oe pumps are nuts. Look into a pump by Little Giant
as a replacement. I think they can be had for $75 +|-
I would have to dig up the info I have on it but there have been several discussions on this forums for a direct replacement option. You reuse the metering block but it apparently screws right on. This might be the one I just did a quick search

Also no need to use anything super special on the pads other than being oil resistant - cuz these things apparently gush oil by design - and semi-firm vs squishy. McMaster has pads fairly cheap 8 for $12 + shipping

Yep. Gravity No screws.
Leveling done via feet on cabinet base.

Thanks for the info! I think that pump would probably work, of course I couldn't find one when I was looking! The pads look about right! I was looking for that kind of information and didn't even think of McMaster... DOH!!!
