My money is on grinder fixture. And on Mr. York having a story about one from his days at Kaiser Steel.

I posted the pics over on the "other" board (PM). Someone there has either an absolutely amazing memory or otherworldly search skills. They found an advertisement for the tool in a 1942 magazine:


$140 in 1942 is about $1860 in today's dollars.

I have a similar fixture not that exact one but very close I use it for tool grinding on a surface grinder
