This tapping head came with my smart and brown lathe a few years ago. I’d like to recondition it as it’ll fit in my new lathe tailstock also. The plate with the details on it is very worn, but I can make out that it was made in Leicester, UK:

I do h have the chuck key that fits, so I need to find one to get a tap in and try it. No idea of the sizes it supports as I know nothing about it.

Any ideas?

Tapping heads require the shank to be rotating in order to work. That one would work great in a drill press or mill with MT spindle.

I just need to find the right chuck key now to open it. I don’t really know how measuring drill chucks work to find the correct one though.

It seems that the diameter of the main section is an inch across.

Does anyone know how to Identify the chuck key I need to buy?

Looks to be some markings on the chuck body (both sides of the hole). Clean it up so you can read those (brand, capacity, mount type), should tell you what the chuck is and from that you may be able to figure it out.
