One college summer vacation I got a job operating a portable rock crusher near what was to be the intersection of Interstate 25 and Interstate 80 near Cheyenne, Wyoming. The crusher was fed by a Cat D9 dozer which meant it had to be moved about 150 feet about every 10 days. It was powered by a 7200 VAC 3 phased generator reduced down to 440 volts, Invariably when reconnecting, the power supply cord was connected incorrectly so conveyors running backwards were not uncommon. The company safety policy required that the portable power plant be shut down if the main out put was to be worked on so it took a little while to get back to crushing rock. That was my introduction to 3 phase power.
