I'm getting my new PM835S knee mill in the next week or so. I'm sure it'll be coated with cosmoline or something like it.

I was thinking of using kerosene? Maybe mineral spirits?

What's the quickest way to do a clean up on a new mill?

I also hope I don't have to take it apart to clean it. I just wanna get rid of the rust protection they added and go straight to working.

Mineral spirits for getting rid of cosmoline.....
Your going to be dis-assembling it to get that stuff out.

When I got my PM-1236T, I used kerosene in a quart plastic spray bottle. It melted the goo right onto the plastic covered floor.

WD-40 in gallon containers !!

After cleaning, you will used it often in the shop as a lubricant for aluminum, and a cleaner for parts covered in cutting oil.

To change the subject a little. I spent the morning cleaning up chips. Next chore is to clean up the cutting oil that seems to get everywhere. Use the same stuff posted above or is there something else that is better for cleaning the grime that builds up over time?

I used mineral spirits on the machines I bought. WD-40 works well but is far more expensive. I use it for a final wipe after removing the bulk with mineral spirits.
