Yes Bob the second I finished the mill I thought of a project that needed a lathe lol. I'm definitely obsessed now with finding a lathe. I'm thinking of going to the scraping meet and have a 2 inch thick piece of steel and wondered if I could practice on it? Or is cast ironmthe only material?

Steel can be scraped, but it is much tougher and therefore slower to make progress on. Actually, it also depends on what kind of steel it is, and whether it is hardened or not.

Yes, go to the scraping meet anyway. We can find you something to scrape, and the tools and knowledge to do it with...

That seems like too good of a price for that model lathe. You should take someone along to help you check it out and vet it. I know a good source for volunteer helpers... Pics?
