Light repair

We have two lights on the front of the garage. When the wife went to replace the bulb in one the metal socket came out with the bulb. Ultra thin metal! I took the fixture down and went to find a match. Didn't find an exact match and the price was $70 for a sort of match. Took the old one apart, crude made is giving it something. Decided to replace the socket, didn't find a match. Bought a $6 porch light @ Home D with the same socket but a different mounting. Did a little modifying and put it in the old fixture. While I had it down I added some reinforcing. Quite surprising, it is made of brass, but very thin brass, painted black. 22 year old China made.
