Since you got it for nothing, it won't cost you anything to keep. Believe me, a big lathe WILL show up one day and you'll be so happy you kept it.

Just buy the MT2 outright. I see them on Ebay all the time. Mine came nearly free in a "Lot" of "machinist tools" several years ago.
