Restoring this old lathe and need to remove some imperfection in the spindle Taper MT3
Looking for suggestions to clean up some nicks and dings from past use.
Thought about wrapping some fine emery around a MT3 precision center and rotating by hand.
What about a wheel cylinder hone? Any other ideas would be appreciated.

Coincidentally, I was in the same boat with my old Logan this past weekend. I used a cylinder hone, which seemed to work just fine. Take my opinion for what it's worth - Not much! This is my first lathe, and wiser folks may know better.

I bought Russian made MT2 & MT3 taper reamers on EBay. Cleaned up both the headstock and tailstock tapers nicely. And I have them for next time I need them.

The emery and center idea is certainly worth a try, I would use some Dykem or high spot blue periodically to check the progress
