Here is my "easy" machinist's jack. Four pieces plus some welding. A disk, a length of pipe, a nut and a bolt.

This one used a 3/4" nut and bolt and some 1" black pipe and was capable of lifting tons but it can easily be scaled down.
Even easier is a hardware store bought coupling nut and a bolt. No machining or welding required. It makes fore a quick and dirty jack when needed.
