Hello everyone, Happy Friday eve!
Here is another project that was a lot of fun, so I wanted to share.
Been wanting to build my own version of a Machinist's Hammer for some time, but other projects kept pushing it back....so here goes.

I started off by turning the replaceable ends out of 1.5" black Delrin and some 360 brass rod. Both of these were turned to an OD of 1.250" and then threaded 3/8"-16 to mate up with the head.

The center portion of the aluminum head was turned to an OD of 1.250". I then turned down short sections to 1.100" and then drilled and threaded both ends 3-8"-16. Moving over to the mill, I cut flats on each side. On this design, I opted for a little different approach. I decided to drill and thread the bottom of the head 1/2"-13 for the handle to thread into and then drill and counter-sink the top for a button head cap screw that would then thread down into the handle for a secure lock-up.

For the aluminum handle, I first threaded one end 1/2"-13 and then center drilled the end to turn between centers. I wanted an OD of roughly .750" for the lower portion, but knew I would have to be several thousandths over or under to get an ideal knurl, so after some measuring and math, my numbers gave me an estimated OD of .7439" before knurling. Final OD after knurling was only .010" over at .760". I then brought the tailstock and live center back up and turned the upper portion down to .600". I drilled and tapped the inside of the 1/2"-13 external threads for the 1/4"-20 button head screw that would be installed in the top of the head. Once complete, I flipped the handle around and faced and chamfered the bottom to an OAL of 8.050".
All parts were then assembled.

Thanks for looking guys. Happy machining everyone!

I made a similar hammer years ago but made a 3rd face out of aluminum and a place for it to screw too at the bottom of the handle. It acts like a hilt as a benefit.
