The factory supplied drawbar has always bothered me so I decided to do something about it. I got a deal on some 303 and preceded to recreate the part. I decided to add a hex head to the top so that I can use a cordless impact driver to close and open the R8 tapered tools.
The original part had a 14mm square top and was bent like a banana. I chucked it into the lathe and made a scratch pass to demonstrate the bow. This amount of deflection on the drawbar made it very cumbersome to close the R8 tapered tooling into the spindle

This was my first attempt at threading 303 on the lathe so I know it is not perfect but it sure feels smooth and works really well.

The head of the drawbar is taking shape.

I made the drawbar as large as I could to add strength but it had some clearance issues inside the spindle. I had to turn the shank down a smidge and I only had the 1/2" 5c collet so I used a small piece of brass shim stock to hold the part.
