Magnet question

I have heard people say that using magnets for workholding too close to the puddle on MIG welding can adversely affect the quality of the weld. I cannot verify this as my welding sucks at the best of times but I wonder if others have heard or experienced this?

You are correct. Arc Blow.

You don't always need a magnet for this to happen either, it can happen because of the shape you are welding, which causes its own eddy currents. Nuisance, you have to lengthen your earth lead and literally wrap it around the job to try to cancel out the effect.
