Hello,
I have been given a 3/4" chuck and it is supposed to fit a one inch shaft 1.0960. I have a vertical mill which I use for machining wooden items, that I wish to attach this chuck to. The mills' shaft is .6980. I want to do this right the first time. Neither the shaft or chuck is threaded. How do I do this so the chuck does not spin and it does not wobble? I am in the remote Rockies in northern New Mexico and there is nobody anywhere near me with any type of expertise such as this.
Thank you in advance.

Gene, how does the chuck attach to the shaft? Is it a Jacobs taper or some other taper?

Hello,
I am ignorant about tapers. This chuck is not a Jacobs chuck. Since there are no threads on either device, I assume some sort of bushing is needed but have no idea as to how to attatch it and also keep the chuck from spinning. I was shown a Jacobs chuck and it has threads internally. I shall send some images Sunday night.

Most drill chucks attache to an arbor via a taper of some kind. The most common taper in the USA is a Jacobs taper, of which there are varying kinds - JT 1, 2, 3, 6, 33 and so on. The male taper on the end of the arbor must match the female taper in back of the chuck. Most often, this Jacobs taper is inscribed somewhere on the chuck so look for that. If you show pics, show any inscriptions you see.

The Jacob's taper is quite shallow. You might not realize it was tapered without a close look.

Hi Gene,

Welcome to the group!

We have many people here that want to help you.
Any more info that you can provide will help. (photos would be great)

Also, any model numbers or sources of the parts will help.

I have a lot on my plate now, but will take some measurements, also try to learn how to get any images from my I phone onto this site. I have not done such a thing before.
