MT taper collets for lathes

I can see an advantage in an MT taper collet in that you don’thave to buy a $200 - $300 collet chuck but there must be some disadvantages orthat’s all people would buy. What are the downsides to an MT taper collet?

perhaps clamping range ?
Have used some from LMS, #3 taper. pretty decent

Most times you can't put work straight through- like R8 collets. Closed at the bottom.
And usually less range- 5C goes up to 1-3/64 inches if I remember correctly.
