Being new to this forum I'm not sure if this is an OK place to put this. So, moderators please move if needed and I apologize in advance.

This is my first post and let me just say that I have NEVER used a lathe, NEVER. I'm confident in using other tools and I've done things like built a 3D printer, converted a wood band saw to a variable speed motor, and things like that. I'm a licensed plumber and a high school teacher too, so I'm not a complete dummy.

Anyway, I have the opportunity to trade my home built tricopter(~$200) for a Myford lathe. My coworker got the lathe from his dad, who ultimately saved it from a guy who was going to send it to the scrap yard.
Before I commit to this trade I thought I would post some pictures and I hope to receive some feedback on whether or not I should pass this up. Here are a couple pieces of information:

Date of Mfg. 1947
Serial # J3702 (At least that's what I think it says on the plate)
Obviously the motor is not original.

Hopefully the pictures below help describe the rest. There were other parts that I did not get a chance to photograph such as a pile of different pulleys and gears(I didn't unwrap all of them).

It looks like most of what you need to get started is there. Plus it looks like there's a few other things like a milling attachment and vise. I'm not familiar with that lathe so I can't say if there's anything to check for but I think it's well worth 200

Go for it, it looks like a good deal and I'm sure that you will learn to enjoy it. Bob

I'd jump all over that! Especially as you can always make another tricopter, but you won't find a lathe that well tooled for $200.

Jump on it. You've got more than $200 just in tooling and accessories there...

You can't go far wrong with that excellent complete package, I reckon quite a few of us would have liked to have been so lucky with our first lathe!

Love the gnarling tool..

Bernard

I appreciate the feedback.

FYI, I'm the proud new owner of a Myford Lathe! WOOT!! As a bonus I found some gems in the bottom of one of the boxes:

How To Run A Lathe: Volume I Edition 43 by J.J. O'Brien
The Beginner's Guide To The Lathe by Percival Marshall
The Amateur's Lathe by Lawrence H. Sparey

Now, I just need to build a super sturdy bench and clear out a patch of real estate in the garage to park the thing.

Congratulations!!!! :man:
