Hi,

I'm trying to calculate my cutting speed for milling this material. I can't find these numbers in Machinery's as it only mentions the ASTM numbering system in passing and Fed Log isn't big on details. I would like to calculate the speeds correctly. Does anyone know what the corresdponding number used in Machinery's Handbook is?

Thanks,
J.

Basic low-carbon steel. Cutting parameters are the same as 1010 which is the same as 1018 which is the same as 1020... For non-alloy carbon steels, all low-carbon versions have virtually identical cutting parameters and things don't change until you get up to 1045 -and even then, the parameters only change by about 5%.
