I am playing around with my lathe.

I turned a piece to 1.125.

How do you set up the 4 jaw chuck to turn an offset.

I would like to turn the offset to .625 Dia.

Thank you,
Dale

Use a dial indicator to set the amount of offset you want and then turn it to given dia.

The difference between high and low indicator readings will be twice the offset. If you want .125 offset, the difference will be .250.

Rather than moving one jaw out and the opposing jaw in, I would move two adjacent jaws out and the other two jaws in. This will give you a better grip on your part. Then as Mr.Whoopee stated, max. - min. reading is twice the offset. For the dimensions you gave, assuming you wnat the .625" diameter to be tangent to the 1.125 diameter, the offset will be.250" and the difference between the readings will be .500".
