Ok, bought the mill, now need advice on decent Dial gage indicator

Thanks for info, I have no problem with a few 100, just did not to go up over 400 if I could help it

I keep telling myself that if I buy a good tool the first time, I only have to buy it once. But I keep buying these Swiss indicators when I find a good deal, which is why I have 5 Compacs, several Interapids, several Mitutoyos, several B&S ... makes no sense!

Obviously, you're doing that so you can send me a couple of your spare indicators. :D

You don't want the mag base to tram, you want to mound a rod in a collet, mount a rod on this rod and put the indicator on the end of the second rod. All connections snug to tight. Mag Bases often don't mount securely, but rock. Go a head and get the mag base, they are quite useful, just not for tramming.

I use a length of 1/4 drill rod bent at 90 degrees and a starrett
indicator great for cantering holes with different tips one can use for different sizes and operations
