That was a real deal; look on e bay for completed items for the chest, the contents not worth much.

If you look for prices on eBay be sure to do an advanced search and include sold items. Often times the asking price is far different than the actual sale price. When I was looking for a 24"x 36" Challenge brand surface plate there were several listed between $1,200.00 and $1,500.00. When I did a search including sold items I found several with similar asking prices that actually sold for between $150.00 and $200.00

I would care about it value. Just enjoy using it. Nice box..

I agree. Some 40 years ago my wife and I were avid antique collectors. We bought over a dozen machinists tool boxes of various brands. Some were refinished and given away as gifts, and we kept others. We still have 6 of them, 4 in the shop unfinished, and 2 more as jewelry and keepsake boxes. I don't think we paid more than $50.00 per box, and some were in pristine condition.

Of the 4 in the shop one belonged to each of her grandfathers, and a third belonged to her father. Regardless of their value I don't think I would sell any of them.

You can find both age and value by contacting Gerstner & Sons and requesting form 1-98-N, OFFICIAL GERSTNER AGE OF CHEST CERTIFICATE PROCEDURE form. For an official certificate, they charge a fee, when I checked the fee was $25.00. Or, just love it and use it as intended. Nice score!

Nice chest. Of course if I said that to a woman she probably would give me the stink eye. :D

Wow, the older Gerstner is a real beauty! The one on top is a Gerstner International. I have an International as my "jewelry box" for my pocket knife collection. It is nicely made, but it doesn't shine like the old USA Gerstners. One of these days I'll re-make all the drawer pulls out of brass and circular file the plastic ones they chose for the International line. Nice score!

The new Gerstner international has laminate drawer bottoms and the old one appears to be sheet metal bottoms that appear to be original.
