With my very limited metallurgical knowledge I can imagine how a ruptured crystal lattice would tend to restore itself if the distances were small enough and sufficient energy present.

Their weapons division was too heavily focused on biologicals...

If a T1000 worked in your shop, could he replicate parts just by touching them?
