Phase convert.

Nice and tidy! I'm curious as to the motor you used also

Charles, please post a picture of the data plate on the idler motor (on the phase converter).
It must be a 208-220-440 THREE phase motor. AFAIK, that's how a rotary phase converter works.
Yes the motor is a 208-220-440. I did not do the wiring, It was done by an in house motor rebuilding shop where I worked at the time. The motor and the convertor panel were given back to me as a running unit 20 years ago. I did however find on line that it can be done using the neutral wire in some manner. I will follow up on this. Thanks.
Thanks - from one Chevy guy to another.

All your'e cars are beautiful. I always thought of the 1978/80 Malibu's as the next 55 chevy and when I saw you have one you confirmed my thought. I have had a few 55s and all were 2dsd's. Just do not care for the hardtops. Thanks for posting such fine cars/trucks. CharlieA0396806-D433-4F4B-99B0-1663C771380F.jpeg040158E4-4423-4DF6-B9F2-193788D4B7EB.jpeg

I agree with you on post cars instead of hardtops. Back in those days wind noise was terrible in a hardtop. My first car was a '55 2-door post - 265 power pack. I modified it and just about ran the wheels off that car. In the late '60's, we knew how to get to about a two mile section of brand new six-lane highway that was not yet opened. A bunch of us would go down there regularly at night and drag race. One night, I'm running against another guy and pegged the speedometer at 110. It started waving back and forth like a windshield wiper. After that, it didn't matter if you were doing 2 MPH or 80 MPH - all it did was wave back at you. Wish I still had it.

In addition to photos above, I had a '65 Ford truck that also had a 327 Chevy drive train it. (Didn't want to post the photo because there is a person in it. I'm not inclined to do that without permission.)

Don't have time to do it now, but if you'll rattle my cage, I'll tell you an interesting story about V-8 engines in '57 models from the factory.

Regards
