Picking up an old arbor press

Heard that..
my guess is that the mushroomed head split the casting. Keep trying to fit a wedge shaped peg in too small a hole and eventually something will break.
Some love I'd say , it's been beaten badly to mushroom it , bend the shaft . Egg out and bust the casting . The stand is worth something but the press is scrap money only. I have the same arbor press and base in my shop and forty years it's never been abused like that. No bent handle either.
